In response to the recent Gulf of Mexico oil drilling accident and other energy related investor concerns, GES Investment Services is in the advanced stages of developing a risk engagement service focusing on key ESG issues within the oil and gas sector.

The project will be launched this autumn and is led by Shane Chaplin, Senior Research Analyst focusing on ESG performance of companies within the extractive industries sector. He also has inside experience from the industry by previously having worked as an HSE advisor to Australian energy company Woodside Petroleum.

Shane Chaplin said: “Several clients have expressed an interest and need to reduce risks for investments in energy companies, highlighted most recently by the BP blowout. As we believe engagement is the most effective means of driving company ESG performance improvements, we are now developing a suitable service in consultation with clients.”

GES Investment Services is also principal author of the latest Eurosif sector report focusing on extractive sector ESG risks and opportunities, which will be launched at an event in the Netherlands on October 4.
